<h3>Power of the Pen Project</h3>
<h3>Schools are safe places for children to enjoy learning and up surging in educational performances</h3>
<p>A Pen is a student’s friend, as it is an instrument that is used for writing and it accompanies the student for most of the time; in that case it has power to deliver a message and keep reminding the student about dealing with or reporting any evident of Violence Against Children (VAC) to authorities.</p>
<h3>Violence Against Children</h3>
<p>Several studies show that VAC negatively affects children’s learning. Article 19 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, specifically stipulates violence against children to constitute “…all forms of physical or mental violence, injury and abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse”.</p>
<p>The United Republic of Tanzania ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991, being one among the African countries to pioneer a policy, legislative and strategic efforts to ensure universal child protection in the country.</p>
<h3>APD Commitments:</h3>
<p>APD is committed to support the government of Tanzania and the global initiatives (including the Target 16.2 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development) to end VAC and promote children’s education performance through:</p>

Empowering all children (with and without disabilities) on child rights and dialogue about the basic types of violence and their categories.

Creating awareness to teachers, parents and the community about ending VAC, as well as provide adequate support to victims and ensure perpetrators are being held accountable.
